Ecclesiastes

Ecclesiastes 4:4-16
4 Then I saw that all toil and all skill in work come from a man's envy of his neighbor. This also is vanity[a] and a striving after wind.

5 The fool folds his hands and eats his own flesh.

6 Better is a handful of quietness than two hands full of toil and a striving after wind.

7 Again, I saw vanity under the sun: 8 one person who has no other, either son or brother, yet there is no end to all his toil, and his eyes are never satisfied with riches, so that he never asks, “For whom am I toiling and depriving myself of pleasure?” This also is vanity and an unhappy business.

9 Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. 10 For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up! 11 Again, if two lie together, they keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? 12 And though a man might prevail against one who is alone, two will withstand him—a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

13 Better was a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king who no longer knew how to take advice. 14 For he went from prison to the throne, though in his own kingdom he had been born poor. 15 I saw all the living who move about under the sun, along with that[b] youth who was to stand in the king's[c] place. 16 There was no end of all the people, all of whom he led. Yet those who come later will not rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and a striving after wind.

Communion
For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, "This is my body which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me." In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me." For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. (1 Corinthians 11:23-26 ESV)

Blessing
May the Lord bless us and keep us;
May he make His face shine upon us, and be gracious to us,
May he lift up His countenance upon us, and give us peace.

Ecclesiastes
"What's Your Distinctive Message?"

Forever Reign
You are good
You are good
When there's nothing good in me
You are love
You are love
On display for all to see
You are light
You are light
When the darkness closes in
You are hope
You are hope
You have covered all my sin

You are peace
You are peace
When my fear is crippling
You are true
You are true
Even in my wandering
You are joy
You are joy
You're the reason that I sing
You are life
You are life
In You death has lost its sting

Oh, I'm running to Your arms
I'm running to Your arms
The riches of Your love
Will always be enough
Nothing compares to Your embrace
Light of the world forever reign

You are more
You are more
Than my words will ever say
You are Lord
You are Lord
All creation will proclaim
You are here
You are here
In Your presence I'm made whole
You are God
You are God
Of all else I'm letting go

My heart will sing
No other name
Jesus

The Same Love
You chose the humble
And raised them high
You chose the weak
And made them strong
You heal our brokenness inside
And give us life

The same love
That set the captives free
The same love
That opened eyes to see
Is calling us all by name
You are calling us all by name
The same love that spread the heavens wide
The same love
That was crucified
Is calling us all by name
You are calling us all by name

You take the faithless
One aside
And speak the words
"You are mine"
You call the cynic
And the proud
Come to me now

You're calling
You're calling
You're calling us to the cross

Bring It All
I lay my life down
Before Your glorious crown
My praises only for You
I pour my love out
Bearing no shed of doubt
My worship's only for You

Only for You do I bring it all
Only for You do I bring it all

Take my offering
My all for my great King
My praises only for You
My breath is Yours Lord
The cross is my reward
My worship's only for You

Open the floodgates of heaven
Pour out Your blessings on me
Only for You do I bring it all
I come before You humbly

Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that Your my God
You're altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me

Humble King
Oh kneel me down again
Here at Your feet
Show me how much You love
Humility
Oh spirit be the start
That leads me to
The humble heart of love
I see in You

'Cause you are the God of the broken
The friend of the weak
You wash the feet of the weary
Embrace the ones in need
I want to be like You Jesus
To have this heart in me
You are the God of the humble
You are the humble king

Ecclesiastes
"What's Your Distinctive Message"

Ecclesiastes 3:16-22
16 Moreover, I saw under the sun that in the place of justice, even there was wickedness, and in the place of righteousness, even there was wickedness.

17 I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked, for there is a time for every matter and for every work.

18 I said in my heart with regard to the children of man that God is testing them that they may see that they themselves are but beasts. 19 For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same; as one dies, so dies the other. They all have the same breath, and man has no advantage over the beasts, for all is vanity.[a] 20 All go to one place. All are from the dust, and to dust all return.

21 Who knows whether the spirit of man goes upward and the spirit of the beast goes down into the earth?

22 So I saw that there is nothing better than that a man should rejoice in his work, for that is his lot. Who can bring him to see what will be after him?

We are saved in a world that's lost
All our hope rests in Your cross
God of strength our weakness shows
We need You
We need You

Father, enter this temple
Come touch Your people
We need to be where You are
And children living as there Father
Washed in pure water
We need to be like You are

We are searching for Your presence
We are knocking on Your door
Let Your wings cover us with promise

Amazing Love
Amazing love that rescued me
From all my sin and shame
Amazing love that set me free
I'll never be the same

I humbly walk before Your cross
I choose to follow You
I count all things I've gained as loss
Compared to knowing You

For nothing compares
To Your love on the cross
And the blood that was shed
For this soul that was lost
Forever I'll sing of Your unfailing grace
Forever I'll sing of Your name

I long to see all nations bow
And worship at Your feet
When every tongue and tribe will shout
That Jesus Christ is King

And when this life has tasted death
I'll go to be with You
I'll come before Your heavenly gates
And grace will see me through

Forever in this perfect place
What joy that day will be
The crown of life upon my brow
And with the angels I'll sing

Ecclesiastes
"Eat, Drink & Be Merry ...in Your Toil"

Holy Spirit
There's nothing worth more
That will ever come close
No thing can compare
You're our living hope
Your Presence Lord

I've tasted and seen
Of the sweetest of loves
Where my heart becomes free
And my shame is undone
In Your Presence Lord

Holy Spirit
You are welcome here
Come flood this place
And fill the atmosphere
Your glory God
Is what our hearts long for
To be overcome
By Your Presence Lord

Let us become
More aware of Your Presence
Let us experience
The glory of Your goodness (Lord)

I don't want to miss you
I don't want to miss
What You are doing
I don't want to miss you
I don't want to miss
How You are moving

One Thing Remains
Your love never fails
It never gives up
Never runs out on me
(Your love)

Higher than the mountains that I grace
Stronger than the power of the grave
Constant in the trial and the change
One thing remains
One thing remains

On and on and on and on it goes
It overwhelms and satisfies my soul
And i never ever have to be afraid
One thing remains
One thing remains

In death
In life
I'm confident and covered by
The power of Your great love
My debt is paid
There's nothing that can separate
My heart from Your great love

For Your Glory
O Lamb of God
Your word has given me life
Take me to declare Your works
You're the way, the truth, the life

For Your glory
For You Kingdom
For Your name oh Lord
Here I am

O Lamb of God
In You alone I find my hope
Teach me to delight in Your word
That I may live for You each day

To You alone I give my heart
In You alone I find my joy
For You alone I count it all loss
And surrender everything to You

Ecclesiastes
"Eat, Drink and Be Merry ...in Your Toil"

Ecclesiastes 3:1-15
1 For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

2 a time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;
3 a time to kill, and a time to heal;
a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 a time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;
a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
6 a time to seek, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
7 a time to tear, and a time to sew;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
8 a time to love, and a time to hate;

a time for war, and a time for peace.

9 What gain has the worker from his toil?
10 I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with.

11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man's heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.

12 I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live;

13 also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil—this is God's gift to man.

14 I perceived that whatever God does endures forever; nothing can be added to it, nor anything taken from it. God has done it, so that people fear before him.

15 That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been; and God seeks what has been driven away.

Ecclesiastes
"Satisfaction"

We Have Gathered
We have gathered
We have gathered
We have gathered to be with You

We've come to worship
We've come to worship
We've come to worship and praise You

'cause You are worthy
'cause You are worthy
'cause You are worthy of our love

Blessing and honor
And glory and power
Forever be Yours

Bring It All
I lay my life down
Before Your glorious crown
My praises only for You
I pour my love out
Bearing no shed of doubt
My worship's only for You

Only for You do I bring it all
Only for You do I bring it all

Take my offering
My all for my great King
My praises only for You
My breath is Yours Lord
The cross is my reward
My worship's only for You

Open the floodgates of heaven
Pour out Your blessings on me

Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that Your my God
You're altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me

I Rest In You
Gracious God
Your staff and Your rod
They comfort me
Creator of all
You took the fall
So I could be free

O Father
O Father
I rest in You
There's no other
No other
Love like You

Surly
Your goodness and mercy
Shall follow me
All the days of my life

A Greater Grace
With a friendly neighborhood love
You look over me
With a still and silent voice
You speak to me
With a warm forgiving smile
Lord, You adore me
With a simple childlike trust
I draw you nearer, nearer
Nearer to me

You give a greater grace
Then I ever could imagine
Humbled I surrender my pride
You give a greater grace
Then I ever could imagine
I'm awash in heaven's tide

With a faithful guardian love
You watch over me
With a strong and guiding hand
You provide for me
With a gentle forgiving heart
Lord, You adore me
With a simple childlike trust
I draw you nearer, nearer
Nearer to me

I come humbled
I come humbled
Humbled by Your presence

As I draw nearer to You
You draw nearer to me
The more I surrender
The more I'm free

Ecclesiastes
"Satisfaction"

Ecclesiastes 1:12-2:26
Satisfaction cannot be found in education
12 I, the Teacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem. 13 I applied my mind to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under the heavens. What a heavy burden God has laid on mankind! 14 I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

15 What is crooked cannot be straightened;
what is lacking cannot be counted.
16 I said to myself, “Look, I have increased in wisdom more than anyone who has ruled over Jerusalem before me; I have experienced much of wisdom and knowledge.” 17 Then I applied myself to the understanding of wisdom, and also of madness and folly, but I learned that this, too, is a chasing after the wind.

18 For with much wisdom comes much sorrow;
the more knowledge, the more grief.

Satisfaction cannot be found in pleasure
2 I said to myself, “Come now, I will test you with pleasure to find out what is good.” But that also proved to be meaningless. 2 “Laughter,” I said, “is madness. And what does pleasure accomplish?” 3 I tried cheering myself with wine, and embracing folly—my mind still guiding me with wisdom. I wanted to see what was good for people to do under the heavens during the few days of their lives.

4 I undertook great projects: I built houses for myself and planted vineyards. 5 I made gardens and parks and planted all kinds of fruit trees in them. 6 I made reservoirs to water groves of flourishing trees. 7 I bought male and female slaves and had other slaves who were born in my house. I also owned more herds and flocks than anyone in Jerusalem before me. 8 I amassed silver and gold for myself, and the treasure of kings and provinces. I acquired male and female singers, and a harem[a] as well—the delights of a man’s heart. 9 I became greater by far than anyone in Jerusalem before me. In all this my wisdom stayed with me.

10 I denied myself nothing my eyes desired;
I refused my heart no pleasure.
My heart took delight in all my labor,
and this was the reward for all my toil.
11 Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done
and what I had toiled to achieve,
everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind;

nothing was gained under the sun.

Satisfaction cannot be found in wisdom
12 Then I turned my thoughts to consider wisdom,
    and also madness and folly.
What more can the king’s successor do
than what has already been done?
13 I saw that wisdom is better than folly,
just as light is better than darkness.
14 The wise have eyes in their heads,
    while the fool walks in the darkness;
but I came to realize
that the same fate overtakes them both.
15 Then I said to myself,

“The fate of the fool will overtake me also.
What then do I gain by being wise?”
I said to myself,
    “This too is meaningless.”
16 For the wise, like the fool, will not be long remembered;
the days have already come when both have been forgotten.

Like the fool, the wise too must die!

Satisfaction cannot be found in work
17 So I hated life, because the work that is done under the sun was grievous to me. All of it is meaningless, a chasing after the wind. 18 I hated all the things I had toiled for under the sun, because I must leave them to the one who comes after me.

19 And who knows whether that person will be wise or foolish? Yet they will have control over all the fruit of my toil into which I have poured my effort and skill under the sun. This too is meaningless. 20 So my heart began to despair over all my toilsome labor under the sun. 21 For a person may labor with wisdom, knowledge and skill, and then they must leave all they own to another who has not toiled for it. This too is meaningless and a great misfortune. 22 What do people get for all the toil and anxious striving with which they labor under the sun? 23 All their days their work is grief and pain; even at night their minds do not rest. This too is meaningless.

24 A person can do nothing better than to eat and drink and find satisfaction in their own toil. This too, I see, is from the hand of God, 25 for without him, who can eat or find enjoyment? 26 To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

Communion Verse
We have come to You
We have come to You
Make Your presence know to us

Under the Sun
What does a man gain by all the toil
At which he toils under the sun
What does a man gain by all the toil
All is vanity under the sun
All is vanity under the sun

A generation goes and comes
But the earth remains forevermore
A generation goes and comes
All is vanity evermore
All is vanity evermore

And so we search for more
And so we search for more
And so we search for more
'cause all is vanity under the sun
All is vanity under the sun

The sun it rises and goes down
It hastens to rise again
The sun it rises and goes down
All is vanity under the sun

All is vanity under the sun

You are Mighty God my King
You are the Everlasting God
To the prince of peace I sing

I'm prayerfully
I'm prayerfully
I'm prayerfully Yours
